Nick Bennett's life took a dramatic turn when he suffered horrific injuries in a car crash.

Nick, of Papworth Everard, had only just passed his driving test at the age of 17 when he was involved in the accident.

While attempting to overtake two vehicles he hit a lorry head-on.

First on the scene was Dr Pam Kenny of medical charity Magpas, and while she undoubtedly saved his life, Nick's brain stem was seriously damaged which affected his mobility, speech and nervous system.

He spent 10 months in intensive care at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

Now 23, Nick has raised more than £10,000 for Magpas and has used his experience to warn other young motorists of the dangers of reckless driving.

Nick has now been nominated for a Spicers Young Person of the Year Award (YOPEY) which reveals, recognises and rewards young people who are positive role models.

In the last three years Nick has repaid the charity by raising money, either by himself or with others, through various efforts such as a skydive which alone raised more than £7,000.
