A musician from St Ives is releasing a single to help a cancer charity.
Paul Richards has teamed up with other local musicians to record the song Name In Lights which he hopes will raise at least £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The track – which is being released on the internet on Monday (October 20) – has been written by Paul's friend Michelle Bessant and is described as 'a rousing ballad'.
Drummer Paul, 27, said: "A member of my immediate family has been affected by cancer and I really wanted to give something back.
"As a musician, recording a charity single seemed like the perfect thing to do and after months of hard work we are finally on the verge of releasing it.
"We are desperate to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK and we have an initial target of raising at least £5,000 for the cause.
"Name In Lights is perfect charity song material – a powerful, rousing ballad that is very accessible."
Paul was joined by fellow St Ives resident Alister Bunclark (piano), Alex Harris (vocals), Claudia McKenzie (bass) and Andy Cross (guitar) for the recording of the single at Zoo Audio studios in Cambridge last May.
And the band have already collected more than £400 for Cancer Research after putting on a charity gig at Cambridge City Football Club in June.
Paul, who currently plays for six bands on the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire circuit, added: "I would like to offer huge thanks to Andy Cross, the studio's owner and engineer, who gave up his time to record this song for free, which means most of the money raised from this will also go to the Cancer Research charity."
>> Name In Lights will be available to buy from iTunes, Napster and Amazon Mp3 from Monday (October 20).
