A 70-year-old lady punched a would-be thief as he attempted to steal her handbag in St Ives yesterday (Thursday).
The elderly woman was walking along Crown Walk, through Warner Park and onto a footpath which leads onto Fairfields, at about 10.30am.
A male, aged 11 to 15 years old, jumped out of bushes and tried, to grab her handbag, which was resting on her trolley.
The woman punched the young man, who was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and navy/black anorak hoody, and he ran off towards Pig Lane and Eastfields empty handed.
PC Gemma Scott, investigating, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and can recall seeing a man acting suspiciously in Fairfields.
"Perhaps you saw a man running away from the area and you can remember what he looked like? Please get in touch."
