Police are warning shoppers to keep their belongings secure after two bag snatches.
They occurred between 5pm and 6pm last Wednesday (November 19).

The first took place in Huntingdon Street, close to Priory Hill Park. A woman was carrying her handbag and a carrier bag when she was approached from behind by two men.

Her carrier bag was snatched and the men ran off. It contained a phone charger, make up bag and an umbrella.

The second incident took place in an alleyway near Greenfields near to Longsands Community College. A woman had her handbag grabbed by two young men on the same bicycle.

DC Martin Brocklebank said: "I would like to speak to anyone who saw these snatches take place.

"Both incidents involved women who were walking alone. This sort of offence is rare and people should not be worried but taking sensible precautions is wise.

"Walk in well lit areas and, if possible, with a friend. Otherwise keep your bag securely across you, out of view if possible, or carry a purse and any valuables in pockets."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Brocklebank on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
