A NEW flood defence scheme in St Neots has been approved.
The £1.5 million Environment Agency scheme, which will shelter the Riverside Park area of the town, has been given the go ahead by Huntingdonshire District Council following a four year campaign by residents.

Work is expected to start on the project in February 2009.

Cllr Jennifer Bird, chairwoman of The Paddock Residents' Association, said: "Everybody who lives here is just so relieved. I am so pleased because more than four years of hard work have finally paid off.

"The design means that flooding shouldn't restrict access to St Neots and there won't be adverse effects elsewhere in the town."
