Bikers cruising the B645 are a nuisance, according to a parish council chairman.
Cllr Nick Farnden, who lives in the centre of Hail Weston says that he has frequently been disturbed by noisey bikers speeding along the road and is growing increasingly concerned about the potential for accidents.

The scenic route from St Neots to Kimbolton is a popular one for bikers, who roar along it in groups on summer evenings.

However, Cllr Farnden says their leisure activity is a menace for everyone else.

He said: "This week it has been incredibly bad and I have safety concerns.

"I would say it is the worst it has been for a couple of years.

"I think that sooner or later some resident of Hail Weston is going to be injured or worse.

"There's bikes that are travelling at speeds well in excess of the limit.

"I live in the middle of the village and the noise is bad there, so for people who live closer to the B645 it must be a big issue."

Speeding on the B645 has been an official priority of the St Neots and District Neighbourhood Policing Team and they have been issuing £60 fines and penalty point to drivers found to be breaking the limit.

But so far Cllr Farnden does not believe their efforts are having the desired effect.

He said: "It's not enough from what I can see. It has not been as effective as we would like.

"I would like to see the police introduce more speed controls, ad-hoc speed checks and possibly cameras."

In response, a police spokesperson said: "This is an issue police are fully aware of and one that officers are committing time and resources to.

"Safety cameras are regularly deployed along the B645 and the St Neots and district neighbourhood policing team continue to conduct regular speed checks on the road.

"Since April 51 people have been issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for speeding and a number of others have been given verbal warnings."
